For Patients: Patient Resources

Whether you are looking for tips on finding a rheumatologist, want additional information on how to manage your spondylitis using everything from diet to exercise, are seeking personal support from others, or want information on how you can help support the fight against spondylitis, you will find it here.

Below are some brief descriptions of the different pages in this section.

Books, Brochures & Materials About Spondylitis
To complement the wealth of information on this site, our collection of media covers a wide-range of issues that affect the spondylitis community. Proper exercise techniques, in-depth examination of disease facts and tips for helping manage spondylitis are but a few of the topics our publications touch upon. Click here to view our educational materials.

You are not alone

We are here to support you. There are many SAA Sponsored Spondylitis Support Groups dotted across the U.S. that are there to help.

When a person has a lifelong, chronic condition like ankylosing spondylitis (AS) or one of its related diseases, everyone in the family is affected and relationships outside of the family can change. Read what our members have to say in the "Your Stories" Section.

If you, a friend or a family member were recently diagnosed, you should visit our "For the Newly Diagnosed" section where you will find helpful links regarding support for family & friends along with other helpful information.

Additional Information on Managing Your Spondylitis
Here in our Patient Resources section, we have information on how exercise, posture, and diet, can help manage your spondylitis. We have sections for both men's health and women's health, each of which contain answers to gender specific questions. There is also a section on alternative treatments that covers everything from acupuncture to massage.

Having the support of a proper medical team is a must when treating spondylitis. One of the first steps into organizing your medical team is finding a rheumatologist.

We also provide a guide by SAA Member and volunteer, Marie Irwin, that reviews the pros/cons and describes her experience using various gadgets and gizmos to manage AS, including heat/cold therapy, chairs, support items and more. You can click here to view her guide.

Help Stop AS and Related Diseases
SAA is here to be a leader in the quest to cure ankylosing spondylitis and related diseases, and to empower those affected to live life to the fullest. But we need your help. By either donating to SAA, or by becoming a member of SAA, you are helping not only raise awareness but are supporting the latest medical research into AS and related diseases. Click here to see more of the ways you can help.
