He's at it again.

Stiffy, star of SAA member Michael Smith's website "Spondyville," is off and running -- again. In 2001, Stiffy ran across the Internet. During his trek he popped up on a variety of websites during his year long run and set the stage for this year's journey.

In an attempt to top last year's epic, Smith decided that it was time for Stiffy to see the world.

"Well, first off, Stiffy doesn't let me make decisions for him. And although he says he is doing this just to raise awareness of AS, I suspect the prospect of free-loading off a few of his spondy pals and seeing the world at the same time had something to do with it," said Smith, who is a playwright living in New York City.

Smith's website, "Spondyville," is dedicated to giving those with Ankylosing Spondylitis a reason to laugh. His light-hearted approach is his way of keeping things in perspective.

"Seriously… I thought this would be a fun way for Asers (people with AS) to bond through having a common project and watching the project develop and build over a period of time. I also just think it's a funny idea, and wanted to see Stiffy in all those exotic locations. It also lets people see that having a disease does not have to be humorless. My job has always been to inject humor into situations and this is just another opportunity," said Smith.

He added that anybody interested in ushering Stiffy to new and exciting locales should be ready to pay shipping to the next destination and take plenty of pictures. Preferably in places that are recognizable.
