Government Rolls Out Spanish Language Health Website

12/26/2003

In response to the growing need for health related information to be made available to the growing Spanish speaking population, the government unveiled a new website that offers health education and research information about arthritis, rheumatic diseases and disorders of the bone, skin and muscle and connective tissue in Spanish.

The U.S. National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) website is called “En Espanol.” Launched during Hispanic Heritage Month, the site offers extensive information about health, research, grants and clinical trials that is also available on the English version of the NIAMS website.

“Our Spanish-language site is a stop beyond the production of health information in Spanish. It is our attempt to make the NIAMS website more accessible to the growing population of Spanish-speaking individuals,” NIAMS director Dr. Stephen I. Katz said in a press release.

The site was prepared in collaboration with professionals who are experts in public health issues and the Spanish language, but reflects the information available on the NIAMS English site.

You can find “En Espanol” at http://www.niams.nih.gov/index_espanol.htm.
