How can I help fight AS?

5/04/2004

By becoming an advocate in finding a cure for AS, you help everyone who suffers with the disease. How do I become an advocate? There are many ways in which you can be an advocate for treatment, support and change for those who are afflicted with Ankylosing Spondylitis.

Participate in research

If you have AS, it may be possible to participate in a research study. By doing so, you will be helping science take one step closer to finding a cure and you will be taking an active role in the treatment of AS.

Start or join a support group

In a support group atmosphere, people with AS can share advice, concerns and thoughts about the disease. Through communicating information within the group, people can enlighten each other through their experiences and gain not only emotional support, but also gain insight into treatment and living a healthy, productive life.

Write your congressional representatives

Let our leaders know about AS. Encourage them to support research into treatments and programs for AS. Try your best to expand their awareness about Ankylosing Spondylitis and related diseases.

Communicate

The biggest weapon in the fight against the disease is communication. Let others know how you feel and what you’ve learned. Don’t be afraid to speak out because many people might want to hear what you know and what you have to say.
