Male Osteoporosis and AS Severity

Posted on: 1/07/08

A study published in the November 2007 edition of the Journal of Rheumatology has found that osteoporosis can occur in men with even benign ankylosing spondylitis. Thus occurring in even mild cases of AS.

The study, "Male Osteoporosis with Vertebral Fractures? Look for Ankylosing Spondylitis! A Report of 10 Cases", concludes that "Osteoporosis with fractures" may also reveal a spondyloarthropathy in a patient. Doctors treating osteoporosis with fractures should look for AS.

As is well known, osteoporosis is not an uncommon complication of AS. SAA Members who would like to know more about osteoporosis and AS can read the article, "Expanding The Therapeutic Horizon In Ankylosing Spondylitis - Osteoporosis is a readily preventable complication of AS" by clicking here.
