Rheumatology Patients and Online Preparation for Appointments

Posted on: 4/14/08

A recent study published in the March, 2008 issue of Arthritis Care and Research, found that people who research their symptoms online and discuss the research with their doctor often had higher levels of satisfaction with their appointments.

The study, "Prepared patients: Internet information seeking by rheumatology patients", found that in a sample of 120 patients, 62.5% sought information regarding their conditions on the web. However, only 20% discussed the information they found with their physician.

The study's abstract states that the reason most patients did not discuss the information was that "they primarily feared being perceived as challenging their physicians."

Here at SAA we suggest doing your best to work with your physicians/doctors as a team. More information on the medical team that may help to treat spondylitis is available by clicking here.
