Total hip arthroplasty in patients with chronic autoimmune inflammatory arthropathies

Arthroplasty is a joint replacement. In this study published in the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases, researchers look at total hip replacements in "Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS)…"

The study authors found that there was an "excellent outcome of [total hip replacement] for patients with chronic autoimmune arthropathies at the time of follow-up." The authors focused on "re- and post-operative range of motion, Harris hip score, limb length discrepancies and complications…"

The authors also not that "Careful patient selection remains a priority as long-term outcomes for such patients of a significantly younger population is yet to be determined."
