On Thursday, June 27, 2019, SAA will be hosting our second Twitter chat, featuring special guest speaker, our very own Richard Howard @RichAHoward. The Twitter chat will focus on advocacy – both personal advocacy, and effecting change in the wider community.
The small and tightly knit spondyloarthritis research community has lost a prolific researcher and a dear friend. It is with great sadness that we share that Mark Asquith, Ph.D. passed away on Sunday, June 9th after suffering a bleed from a brain aneurysm. He was just 36 years old with an exceptionally bright future ahead. Our thoughts go out to all who knew and loved him.
In honor of Spondylitis Awareness Month, we requested landmarks in the U.S. to #GoBlue4AS to help raise awareness and support people living with the disease.

On April 13th, 2019 the Spondylitis Association of America and the Hospital for Special Surgery hosted a joint Spondylitis Educational Seminar in New York, NY. Our speakers for the day were Rheumatologist Sergio Schwartzman, MD, Occupational Therapist John Indalecio, OTR/L, CHT, MS, and Certified Yoga Therapist Nancy O'Brien, C-IAYT.
During Spondylitis Awareness Month, SAA attended two medical conferences, setting up booths and exhibiting to raise awareness of spondyloarthritis and the services we offer. We had the opportunity to speak with countless Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and other medical professionals from around the country.
