About Holly Frick, Leesburg's Support Group Leader

After having pain throughout childhood that was not addressed, and much self-care of resting and sleeping more than my peers, my diagnosis came in the Fall of 2016 at the age of 44. Once I had that funny name for my disease I knew I would receive good care, and I finally had the reason for my fatigue.

My family has been a wonderful support system to me. It’s amazing to see them take the lead by caring for me, which is a complete role reversal that has blessed me. Many friends have also stepped up and came to my side with encouragement.

The research and education I’ve received from SAA has helped me feel more in control of where I am going on this new journey. I’ve adjusted my expectations, self-pressure, and my Rheumy has stopped asking if I’m a perfectionist.

Having this support has given me the desire to start a SAA support group here in NoVa, to offer support, and encourage other AS warriors to continue the fight and work to improve their daily lives.

Today, I am managing my AS with biologics, anti-inflammatories, healthy eating habits, stretching, and hopefulness. Never give up, never stop hoping, and sharing. Having this attitude has gotten me far in life, and if you are around me a bit, it just might rub off!

Holly Frick lives in serene Lovettsville VA, with her husband of 20+ years, and her two adoptive sons. She loves to claim the title “foodie” and can often be found in her kitchen or visiting cafes. Her favorite pastimes/addictions are genealogy and essential oils; she also homeschools, so Holly is often close to her computer researching one topic or another.
